He looked over the new people of the earth. He knew he did not belong to them; he knew that, like the monsters from Mars, he was anathema and a thing to be swept away. And, even though inconceivable, he realised what had taken place. In a short time, it had all changed.

A coughing chuckle filled his throat. He looked over the small, wall that separated them, a few feet in height and a mountain. He thought about sipping a red wine, something thick and spicy and of the old world. That had gone. Full circle, it had turned. These had been his friends and neighbours. They had shared conversations, agreed upon similar things, had values in common. When he looked at them now, he saw only hatred. Nothing was the same.

His beliefs, his values, he had thought were universal. And he was gone. In a few short…
