Read After AWOL…

Still a good novel.

When one mentions the term ‘dystopian novel’ the chances are two books will come to your mind, ‘A Brave New World’ by Aldous Huxley and ‘1984’ by George Orwell. You can now add a third one to this list: ‘AWOL’ By Mike Evans. The book was a real surprise to me, it is very well written and eloquent with an interesting and intense dynamic between the various characters. Throughout the novel, the author tackles deep topics such as the pressure to conform, education system, freedom, danger, courage, love, and friendship.
What stood out for me was that in a dystopian society where everything is controlled, intelligence and creativity are the ‘No 1 Public Enemy’. I also loved the fact that the only two female characters portrayed in the book epitomized courage and leadership accompanied by a zest of ‘sensory delights’ and attractiveness. I was also moved by the library scene and Adam’s wonder at the beauty of seeing books for the first time.
Don’t wait a single moment to read AWOL, it’s a great read!
